Sony developing TV series based on From Blood & Ash book series

Sony is developing Jennifer L. Armentrout's book series, including the New York Times bestseller From Blood & Ash, for television.
The project is being developed as an ongoing series spanning five Blood and Ash books: From Blood and Ash, A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire, The Crown of Gilded Bones, The War of Two Queens, and A Soul of Ash and Blood, sources close to the production said.

The book series follows Poppy, whose life has never been her own since she was chosen at birth to usher in a new era. As she awaits the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the Guardians, fighting the evil that took her family, than preparing to be deemed worthy by the gods. But the choice was never hers.

The future of the entire kingdom rests on Poppy’s shoulders. And when Hawke, a golden-eyed Guardian tasked with ensuring her ascension, enters her life, fate and duty become entangled with desire and need. Poppy is on the verge of not only losing her heart and being deemed unworthy by the gods, but her life as every bloodstained thread holding her world together begins to fray.

Sony has successfully adapted the hit Diane Gabaldon book series Outlander for Starz, which is about to end after eight seasons. However, the franchise continues through the prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which follows the parents of Outlander's main characters Claire (Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).

Although the TV adaptation of the From Blood and Ash book series focuses on five books, it could expand in the same way that Outlander did. Armentrout is set to release a sixth installment next year, The Primal of Blood and Bone , and there is already an entire prequel series. The Flesh and Fire spin-off prequel series has four books: A Shadow in the Ember , A Light in the Flame , A Fire in the Flesh , and Born of Blood and Ash .

Armentrout is a New York Times bestselling author who writes for both young adult and adult audiences, the latter under the pen name J. Lynn. In addition to the From Blood and Ash series, she has written several other popular series, including Covenant and its prequel series Titan ; Lux and its spin-off Origin ; The Dark Elements and its prequel series Harbinger ; and the Wicked trilogy, to name a few.

In early 2015, Armentrout was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a group of rare genetic disorders in which cells in the retina break down and die, eventually leading to vision loss and other complications. This diagnosis has made educating people about the varying degrees of blindness a passion of hers, along with writing, which she plans to continue doing for as long as she is able.
