Netflix Unveils Documentary Surviving Black Down Based on Ridley Scott Hit Film

Netflix has greenlit a documentary based on Black Hawk Down, Ridley Scott's 2001 blockbuster.
Surviving Black Hawk Down comes from Scott’s RSA Films and will tell the real story of the horror and heroism behind the events that inspired his film. It is a mix of raw, compelling storytelling with interviews from both sides of the Battle of Mogadishu.

Black Hawk Down was released in 2001 and won two Oscars. The film, starring Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor and Eric Bana, followed the journey of the U.S. special forces into Somalia to destabilize the government and bring food and humanitarian aid to the starving population. The group used Black Hawk helicopters to lower the soldiers to the ground.

Surviving Black Hawk Down is produced by Jamal Osman, Emma Supple. Executive producers are Dominic Crossley-Holland and Tom Pearson. Director is Jack MacInnes.

Netflix's three-part documentary premieres Monday, February 10.

This is a good and exciting film. But of course somewhat romanticized and very "American" in approach. I wonder how those involved will look back on it more than 30 years later and whether this documentary looks at a few more points of view.

By the way, I would put "Hawk" between "Black" and "Down" in the title of this article ;-)
