American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson revisits the sensational case with new interviews

Director Floyd Russ sought to bring the story to a new generation by offering a new lens on the historical process.
It was the case that captivated the world. In 1995, former NFL player, commentator and actor O.J. Simpson stood trial for the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. The eight-month trial and quick acquittal sent shockwaves through the country.

Thirty years later, director Floyd Russ (American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing, Untold: Malice at the Palace) re-examines one of history’s most talked-about true crime stories in the four-part documentary American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson. “This is a story that has so many faces and so many elements that when you put it into historical context, it takes on a new shape every few years,” Russ says.

The series features new interviews with many key figures in the investigation and trial, including former LAPD detective Mark Fuhrman, multiple witnesses including Kato Kaelin, defense and prosecution attorneys Carl Douglas and Christopher Darden, respectively, and Goldman’s sister Kim. “Our interviewees have this ability to reflect in a new way after 30 years,” Russ says of his conversations. “Their emotions have evolved and the way they can talk about them is different than ever before. That sense of reflection from the people involved was evident from the beginning, which made us feel like this story needed to be told in a new and different way.”

The four-part series American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson will be released on Wednesday, January 29. Watch the trailer below.
