Jan Verheyen makes documentary Zoon van een Moordenaar for Streamz

The Streamz Original documentary Zoon van een Moordenaar (further referred to as "Son of a Murderer") is inspired by the book of the same name by Renzy Tielens.
Jan Verheyen directs the new documentary Son of a Murderer. For this he travels to Avelgem and surroundings, in the extreme southeast of West Flanders, where a terrible family drama took place in September 1987.

The Streamz Original documentary, inspired by the book of the same name by Renzy Tielens, tells the poignant story that caused turmoil in the region at the time.

Renzy, then ten years old, saw his mother Daisy being shot dead with a hunting rifle. The shooter was his father, Arnold Tielens, the prototype of the dour, hard-working West Fleming. The man could not accept that his much younger wife had left him for her lover, Ronny De Temmerman. Ronny also took two bullets, but survived.

At first glance, it seems like yet another tragic murder of passion, but the case has many facets: What seemed like a harmonious family from the outside, was characterised by fear and oppression within the walls of the villa. Many knew about the problematic family situation of Renzy and his two sisters, but chose to look the other way – ‘each to his own household' was the motto at the time.

In the documentary, Renzy will talk about what it meant to grow up as ‘the son of…’ and around twenty witnesses and people involved will talk about the murder, the trial and the aftermath for all those involved.

Son of a Murderer is a compelling and haunting period document about the deep Flanders of the late 80s, the very different approach to justice in the early 90s, broken lives, but also of hope and healing.

A premiere date has not yet been announced.
