Rachel Weisz to star in Netflix limited series Vladimir

Oscar winner Rachel Weisz plays a woman obsessed with a co-worker in the series Vladimir, which is based on the novel by Julia May Jonas.
The synopsis for Vladimir reads: "As a woman's (Weisz) life unravels, she becomes obsessed with her fascinating new colleague. Filled with sexy secrets, dark humor, and complex characters, Vladimir is about what happens when one woman is determined to make her fantasies a reality."

Playwright and author Julia May Jonas is also a writer and executive producer on the series. Kate Robin (Six Feet Under, The Affair) serves as showrunner, and Sharon Horgan (through her Merman banner) and Jason Winer (through his Small Dog Picture Company) are also executive producers. 20th Television is producing.

“With Kate Robin’s expertise in crafting layered, darkly comedic female stories, a script that deftly examines the complexity of attraction and moral ambiguities, and the incomparable Rachel Weisz (photo) leading the cast, this project is a powerhouse collaboration of talented women,” said Tracey Pakosta, vp comedy series at Netflix. “We can’t wait for our fans to be as obsessed with Vladimir as we are.”

Added Horgan, “I fell in love with Julia’s writing from the very first paragraph. I feel very lucky and incredibly excited for Merman to bring Vladimir to life alongside Small Dog. Getting to partner with Netflix and have Rachel attached is a thrill and testament to the brilliance of the scripts.”

Weisz’s recent work includes the Prime Video series Dead Ringers, Marvel’s Black Widow and The Favourite – the latter of which earned her an Oscar nomination. In 2006, she won an Academy Award for The Constant Gardener.
