Creator of Power developing new crime series Nemesis for Netflix

Netflix has greenlit a crime drama from someone who knows the genre well: Power creator Courtney A. Kemp.
The streamer has picked up a series from creators Kemp (pictured) and Tani Marole titled Nemesis, which will tell the story of “two men on opposite sides of the law, the story of what happens when an unstoppable force (a criminal expert) meets an immovable object (a brilliant police detective),” according to the synopsis.

The synopsis continues: “What begins as a series that aims to subvert the heist genre at every turn, filled with tense life-or-death stakes, family dynamics and explosive action, becomes an exploration of what drives us, sustains us and ultimately destroys us.”

The series, which will film in Los Angeles, is the first product of Kemp’s overall deal with Netflix, where she moved after six years at Power franchise producer Lionsgate TV.

Matthew Law (Abbott Elementary) and Y’lan Noel (Insecure) will lead the cast, which also includes Cleopatra Coleman, Tre Hale, Domenick Lombardozzi, Jonnie Park and Ariana Guerra.

“Viewers are in for a ride with Nemesis, Courtney and Tani’s bold take on the crime drama genre,” said Nne Ebong, vp studio scripted series at Netflix. “Courtney’s shows have proven to dominate culture and conversation, and it’s exciting to have this be the first project from our creative partnership.”

Added Kemp, “Tani and I are excited to bring a hard-hitting psychological crime drama to Netflix, specific in location, but broad in universal themes of right and wrong, love and loss, and loyalty vs self-preservation. We are grateful to Bela, Peter, Jinny and Nne for their support, keeping this production in Los Angeles and getting local crews back to work.”
