In a highly competitive situation, Apple TV+ has picked up The Dealer, starring Jessica Chastain and Adam Driver, with a straight-to-series order. Written by Lucas Hnath and directed by Sam Gold, The Dealer is described as a biting exploration of power, class, seduction and culture in the glittering world of the high-end art market, told through the eyes of an aspiring super gallery owner, played by Oscar winner Jessica Chastain (pictured), and the tangled relationship with her most gifted and unnerving artist, played by Oscar winner Adam Driver.
The Dealer is executive produced by Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer for Media Res, Chastain and Kelly Carmichael for Freckle Films, Driver and Alan Poul (Six Feet Under). Arianna Anderson is co-executive producer on the project, which fits into Apple TV+’s star-studded slate.
This is Media Res’ fourth series for Apple, following the Emmy- and SAG Award-winning drama The Morning Show , which is in its fourth season, Pachinko , and Extrapolations .
It’s also the fourth high-profile sale for the company in recent months. Media Res recently landed The Band , an hour-long dramedy starring Ben Stiller, at HBO and also has a bisexual romance drama, Enigma Variations , starring Jeremy Allen White at Netflix. After a bidding war, the Silicon Valley thriller Thumblite , starring Rosamund Pike, landed at Netflix in September with a straight-to-series order. The series The Miniature Wife will soon be released by Peacock, starring Matthew Macfadyen.
This marks Chastain’s second series for Apple TV+ – she stars in and produces the upcoming limited series The Savant through Freckle Films – and for Media Res, where she previously starred in and produced the HBO limited series Scenes From a Marriage (US).
The Dealer is only Driver's (pictured) second major television role following his breakthrough role in HBO's Girls. In feature films, he was recently seen in Megalopolis and will soon appear in Father, Mother, Sister, Brother. Driver was nominated for an Oscar for Marriage Story and BlacKkKlansman.
