FOX orders new Seth MacFarlane animated comedy series for next season

FOX orders new Seth MacFarlane animated comedy series for next season

With American Dad! moving to TBS and The Cleveland Show quietly getting cancelled, MacFarlane‘s animated presence on Fox had gone down to one show, flagship Family Guy. But Seth MacFarlane's stronghold on FOX's animated comedy block will expand next year as FOX orders a new series from the Family Guy mastermind.

The network announced that they'd given a 13-episode order to Bordertown, created by MacFarlane and Family Guy's Mark Hentemann, to debut during the 2014-2015 season. Alex Carter (Family Guy) and Dan Vebber (American Dad!) serve as co-executive producers. The new series will take a satirical look at the cultural shifts occurring throughout America.

The comedy, which takes place in a fictitious desert town near the U.S.-Mexico border, centers on the intertwining daily lives of neighbors Bud Buckwald and Ernesto Gonzales. Bud, a married father of three, is a Border Patrol agent who feels threatened by the cultural changes that have transformed his neighborhood. Living next door is Ernesto, an industrious Mexican immigrant and father of four, who is proud to be making it in America. As Bud and Ernesto’s paths begin to cross, their families become bound by friendship, romance and conflict.

For Fox, Bordertown joins a 2014-15 lineup that already includes the already renewed scripted seasons of Sleepy Hollow, Bob's Burgers, Glee and The Simpsons, as well as new entries Mulaney, Hieroglyph, Gotham and an untitled comedy from 30 Rock's Tina Fey, Matt Hubbard and Robert Carlock.
