Alicia Silverstone may return to the screen as Cher Horowitz in Peacock's Clueless. Peacock is developing a sequel to the Clueless film, with Alicia Silverstone reprising her iconic role as Cher. She will also serve as an executive producer on the project, which is being written by Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Jordan Weiss. Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the 1995 film, and producer Robert Lawrence will also serve as executive producers.
CBS Studios, which owns the rights to Clueless — sister company Paramount Pictures released the film — and Universal Television are producing. Other than Silverstone (pictured) reprising her role as Cher, details of the plot are being kept under wraps.
The current version of Clueless is unrelated to another version of the story that Peacock began developing in 2020 — and then canceled nine months later. That series had a mysterious plot that revolved around the disappearance of Cher and her best friend Dionne (played by Stacey Dash in the film) investigating what happened.
Following the success of the film, a Clueless sitcom ran for three seasons, from 1996 to 1999 — the first on ABC and the last two on UPN. Rachel Blanchard played Cher, with Dash, Donald Faison and Elisa Donovan reprising their roles from the film. Heckerling also created the series.
