Following the news in February of Netflix investing $1 billion in local production, directors and showrunners presented the new series at the streamer's Mexican office. They are Santata, Amor de oficina (Love 9 to 5), No tengo miedo (I'm Not Afraid) and Los corruptores (Corruptors).
Gael Garcia Bernal
Netflix also confirmed the end of production on Mal de amores (Lovesick), an adaptation of the novel written by Ángeles Mastretta and directed by her daughter, Catalina Aguilar Mastretta.
The new series joins the Mexican series that Netflix previously announced it would release this year, namely Snakes and Ladders, The Dead Girls, How to Win the Lottery, The Gringo Hunters, Unspeakable Sins and No One Saw Us Leave.
“We continue to expand the range of stories to be told, but always betting on their authenticity,” said Carolina Leconte, vp of content for Netflix Mexico. “To achieve this, we are investing even more resources and efforts in the development phase of these productions, because dedicating more time to this phase brings tremendous benefits for both creators and audiences.”
Below, take a closer look at the four new Mexican series Netflix unveiled.
Santita, a series by director Rodrigo García, son of Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez, will star Paulina Dávila and Gael García Bernal. “After a car accident confined her to a wheelchair, María José Cano, affectionately dubbed Santita — though she’s more sinner than saint — abandoned the love of her life at the altar,” says a plot description. “Two decades later, his unexpected return forces Santita to confront the consequences of her actions and make a choice that will push the boundaries of her love.”

Amor de oficina (Love 9 to 5), a new comedy series from Carolina Rivera (creator of Daughter From Another Mother, The Manny, and The War Next Door), stars Diego Klein and Ana González Bello (pictured).
No tengo miedo (I’m Not Afraid), based on the Italian novel by Niccolò Ammaniti, is directed by Ernesto Contreras and stars Luis Alberti, Fátima Molina, Yoshira Escárrega, Humberto Busto, and Leidi Gutierrez.
Los corruptores (Corruptors), based on the novel of the same name by Jorge Zepeda Patterson, stars Michel Brown, Zuria Vega, Osvaldo Benavides, and Raúl Briones.
