Netflix's Madonna Limited Series in Development From Shawn Levy

After toggling between a biopic about her life and career, Madonna has now opted for a limited series to tell her story. Music icon Madonna is teaming up with producer and director Shawn Levy on a series project at Netflix. The limited series is in early development at the streamer, where Levy's company 21 Laps has an overall deal.



The Netflix project is unrelated to previous attempts to make a feature film about Madonna (pictured). Julia Garner was considered the favorite to play Madonna in the film, which was set up by Universal Pictures but was canceled in early 2023. Madonna hinted in a social media post last year that she was working on the film again.

Because the development process is still in its early stages, it is unclear whether the potential Netflix series will cover Madonna’s entire life and career or a specific period within it. There is no writer attached; Madonna co-wrote drafts of the feature script about her with Diablo Cody and Cressida Wilson.

Levy’s Netflix credits include Stranger Things, The Perfect Couple, All the Light We Cannot See and The Adam Project. He directed and produced last year’s blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine.
