Fox orders thriller drama series Memory of a Killer

Fox has placed a straight-to-series order for Memory of a Killer, for the 2025-2026 season.
Memory of a Killer centers on a hitman who develops early-onset Alzheimer's disease. The series, from writers Ed Whitmore and Tracey Malone, Warner Bros. TV and Fox Entertainment, is inspired by the 2003 Belgian film The Alzheimer Case, which was adapted into the 2022 American action thriller Memory starring Liam Neeson and directed by Martin Campbell.

Memory of a Killer’s green light follows Fox’s acquisition of the Josh Charles-starring comedy Best Medicine. (The network’s current development model skips pilots in favor of straight-to-series orders.)

The two projects, which emerged earlier this spring as frontrunners on Fox’s development slate to score time slots in 2025-26, have something else in common: Both are based on European IP, like this season’s breakout hit, the medical drama Doc.

The current uptick in U.S. series based on European formats includes ABC’s brand-new crime drama High Potential, the season’s No. 1 program among adults 18-49, which is based on the French and Belgian television series HPI; CBS’ comedy Ghosts, based on a British format, which recently received a two-season renewal; and Doc, an adaptation of the Italian series Doc — Nelle tue mani, which received a 22-episode second season renewal.

They are also joined by the newly ordered CBS series Einstein, starring Matthew Gray Gubler, an adaptation of the German series of the same name, and the two new Fox series Best Medicine, based on the popular British series Doc Martin, as well as Memory of a Killer.

In Memory of a Killer, Angelo Ledda leads two completely separate lives: that of a terrifying New York City hitman and a sleepy copy machine salesman and father from Cooperstown. Both are threatened when he is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, a disease from which he has already lost his older brother.

To complicate matters, he discovers that the recent death of his wife may not have been an accident. When someone comes after his daughter – who is pregnant – it is clear that the wall between their lives has been breached. Angelo must stop whoever is coming for his family by searching through his previous murders for clues, and the list is very long. Memory of a Killer is a redemptive tale of a man who loses his memory but gains a conscience.
