Marvel extends its universe at Netflix

Marvel extends its universe at Netflix

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is extending its series compendium. After 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' on ABC, Netflix is releasing new series about four relatively unknown Marvel super heroes. Daredevil, Luke Cafe, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist will all have their own series. In due time they will appear in the mini series 'The Defenders', in which the super heroes will combine their powers to overcome evil, which seems to resemble the 'Avengers' unity.

“This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel’s brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel’s specialty,” said Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix's president, also expresses his excitement regarding the agreement: “Marvel’s movies, such as ‘Iron Man’ and Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’, are huge favorites on our service around the world. Like Disney, Marvel is a known and loved brand that travels. With ‘House of Cards’ and our other original series, we have pioneered new approaches to storytelling and to global distribution and we’re thrilled to be working with Disney and Marvel to take our brand of television to new levels with a creative project of this magnitude.”

Each show will consist of thirteen episodes, but it remains unknown whether all series will be released at once, like 'House of Cards' and 'Orange is the New Black' at Netflix. Daredevil is set to be released in 2015.
