The series will be a modern reimagining of the classic duo, who first appeared in Christie’s 1922 novel The Secret Adversary. Tommy and Tuppence have appeared on television several times before, including in the 2015 BBC series Agatha Christie’s Partners in Crime (pictured), played by David Walliams and Jessica Raine. A version of Partners in Crime also aired on ITV in the 1980s, this time starring James Warwick and Francesca Annis. The series won an Emmy Award for Best Graphic and Title Design.
The series is being written by Phoebe Eclair-Powell, known for The Road Trip. It is her first television series assignment. She describes writing the series as a "dream come true" for an Agatha Christie fan. She calls Tommy and Tuppence "witty, sharp and ready to solve a lot of murders, while wondering if they should be more than just partners in crime."
The scripts combine screwball comedy, playful romance and suspenseful murder cases, according to producer Katie Draper. The aim is to give a fresh, energetic twist to Christie's beloved characters.
The cast has not yet been announced, and an exact air date has not yet been set. The series is expected to premiere sometime in 2026, after filming is complete.
According to Robert Schildhouse of BritBox, the series promises to be a "fun mix of romance and mystery." Fans of Agatha Christie, detective stories with a twist, and romantic suspense, can look forward to this new, fresh version of a classic detective couple.
