
The series consists of six sixty-minute episodes and centers on five middle-aged women: a teacher, a police officer, a bar owner, a midwife, and a kleptomaniac profiteer.
These five women decide to form a punk rock band to compete in a local talent show. During their shared adventure, they discover they have much more to say than they ever imagined, and their friendship deepens. A surprising and heartbreaking connection develops, especially between teacher Beth and kleptomaniac Kitty.
The series stars Joanna Scanlan as Beth, Rosalie Craig as Kitty, Tamsin Greig as Holly, Lorraine Ashbourne as Jess, and Amelia Bullmore as Yvonne.
The cast also includes a number of well-known names, including Anne Reid (The Sixth Commandment), Sue Johnston (The Royle Family), Peter Davison (Doctor Who), Claire Skinner (Outnumbered), and Angel Coulby (Merlin).
Taj Atwal (Line of Duty), Chandeep Uppal (Holby City), and Jacob Seelochan (Shadow and Bone) also play key roles as Nisha, Kam, and Miranda, the band's energetic backing vocalists.
The series features original songs written and performed by the band ARXX, creating an authentic punk rock atmosphere.
Riot Women is written, created, and directed by Sally Wainwright, who also serves as executive producer. The series premieres on Wednesday, October 22nd. The first two episodes will be available immediately, followed by weekly releases.
