Gina Matthews is developing a new series called Dorothy for Prime Video, a modern retelling of The Wizard of Oz. The Wizard of Oz is based on the books by L. Frank Baum. The series by Gina Matthews (What Women Want) incorporates musical elements and uses the Yellow Brick Road as a metaphor for the challenges and choices facing young adults today.
In addition to Matthews, who is also a producer, several executive producers are involved, including Gwen Stefani (pictured), Blake Shelton and Lee Metzger of Lucky Horseshoe, Grant Scharbo of Little Engine, and Patrick Moran.
Matthews emphasizes that the original books have inspired her since childhood: the story teaches us to overcome difficult times with kindness and perseverance. Dorothy symbolizes strength and shows that with grit and a little kindness, you can not only achieve your goals but also help others.
The other producers also expressed their enthusiasm. Moran praised the collaboration, calling it an opportunity to reinvent a beloved classic. Scharbo emphasized that the project will enchant a new generation of viewers.
Shelton says he immediately thought Gwen Stefani, with her creativity and vision, would be a perfect fit for the project. Stefani herself calls it an inspiring mix of music, emotion, and the strength of the character of Dorothy.
