Ricky Gervais is developing an animated series for adults for Netflix.

Ricky Gervais is venturing into animation once again, this time with the Netflix series Alley Cats, an adult animated comedy series set to premiere in 2026.
Ricky Gervais will voice a "fat, lazy, rude, stubborn creature with tusks, who is less smart and brave than he thinks." The actor and comedian jokes that this role is "a real challenge" for him – a hint of the dry British humor that will characterize the series.

In addition to being the lead actor, Gervais is also the creator and director of the series. The voice cast also includes Tom Basden, Andrew Brooke, David Earl, Kerry Godliman, Jo Hartley, Diane Morgan, Natalie Cassidy, and Tony Way. Elliot Dear serves as co-director.

Alley Cats is described as a sitcom centered around lazy, unmotivated, or aimless characters (the 'slacker sitcom'), following the adventures of a group of feral British cats. As they seek companionship, they philosophize about the daily struggles of life.

This is not the first time Gervais has ventured into animation. The Ricky Gervais Show, an animated version of the popular podcast by Gervais, Stephen Merchant, and Karl Pilkington, ran from 2010 to 2012 on HBO and Channel 4.

Earlier this year, he also voiced the character of Flippy the fish in the children's film Dog Man. Additionally, Gervais is the producer of The Paper, the spin-off of the American The Office that recently premiered on Peacock.
