YA series The Inheritance Game in development at Lionsgate Television

Lionsgate Television is expanding its young adult offerings by acquiring the rights to the successful book series The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.
The production of the new scripted series The Inheritance Game is being carried out by Temple Hill Entertainment — known for The Twilight Saga, The Maze Runner trilogy, and The Fault in Our Stars — which is also collaborating with Lionsgate on the upcoming Twilight series Midnight Sun for Netflix.

The book series The Inheritance Games is a worldwide phenomenon, with over six million copies sold. The first book became an instant New York Times bestseller.

The books follow the story of Avery Grambs, a teenager with big plans for her future: surviving high school, winning a scholarship, and starting a better life. But her world is turned upside down when the wealthy billionaire Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves her almost his entire fortune — despite the fact that she has never met him. The question is: why her? And what is the secret behind the mysterious inheritance?

The television adaptation of The Inheritance Games aligns with Lionsgate's broader strategy to expand its YA franchise library, which also includes titles like The Twilight Saga and The Hunger Games. Jennifer Lynn Barnes will be involved in the project as a producer.

In addition to The Inheritance Games, Barnes has written more than twenty young adult novels, which have been translated into over thirty languages and sold millions of copies worldwide. She published her first novel at the age of 19.
