After six seasons of exploring real history in The Crown, Peter Morgan is focusing on an alternate history for his next Netflix project. Netflix has officially ordered The Boys From Brazil, a limited series based on the 1976 novel by Ira Levin. Jeremy Strong, known from Succession, takes on the role of Nazi hunter Yakov Liebermann, who discovers that the infamous Auschwitz doctor Josef Mengele has a plan to revive the Third Reich.

The project has been in development since February, with Strong attached to the project from the beginning. In addition to him, August Diehl, Daniel Brühl, Gillian Anderson, Shira Haas, and Lizzy Caplan have been added to the cast, while Alex Gabassi — who previously worked with Morgan on The Crown and Black Doves — will direct. Filming begins in December and will take place in the United Kingdom, Bulgaria, and Spain.
Suzanne Mackie, executive producer and founder of Orchid Pictures, which is producing the series alongside World Productions, part of ITV Studios, emphasized that Morgan once again explores how political and emotional forces in the twentieth century shaped the world as we know it today.
According to her, he makes these great historical movements powerfully palpable by telling them through intimate, human stories. She expresses her enthusiasm about the exceptional team in front of and behind the camera and about the renewed collaboration with director Gabassi, and looks forward to bringing Morgan's bold reinterpretation of Ira Levin's novel to life.
The Boys From Brazil was previously adapted into a film in 1978, with Laurence Olivier as Liebermann and Gregory Peck as Mengele, a production that garnered three Oscar nominations, including one for Olivier's lead role.
