Nicholas Hoult and Daisy Edgar-Jones, two of the leading English actors of their generation, have been cast in the lead roles for Hulu's comedy series Mosquito. Mosquito is a new Hulu Original series from Oscar-nominated writer Tony McNamara. The series has received a direct order for six episodes and is part of Disney+'s original British content.
Nicholas Hoult
Internationally, Mosquito will be available on Disney+, while in the United States, the series will be released on Hulu. The project is described as a dark, insightful comedy with a satirical look at a young couple's relationship.
With Mosquito, Hoult, Edgar-Jones, and McNamara return to Hulu, where they were previously involved in successful series from 2020. McNamara created The Great, in which Hoult starred and ran for three seasons, while Edgar-Jones gained worldwide fame with the miniseries Normal People.
Both series were praised by audiences and critics alike, earning Golden Globe nominations for Hoult and Edgar-Jones, as well as accolades for McNamara. The new series builds on McNamara's signature dark and absurdist humor, while thematically aligning with the kind of relational depth fans of Normal People longed for.
Daisy Edgar-Jones
The story revolves around Kate and Ed, played by Edgar-Jones and Hoult, a newlywed couple whose carefully constructed facades begin to crumble under the pressures of everyday life.
As hidden secrets come to light, their relationship is put to the test, ironically triggered by something seemingly trivial: a pesky mosquito. According to McNamara, this absurd catalyst serves as the foundation for a sharp and comedic exploration of intimacy, identity, and marriage.
Filming is scheduled for 2026, and the project marks one of the first major British series commissions since Angela Jain was appointed Head of Content for Disney+ EMEA.
Tony McNamara has exclusively worked on projects for Disney-affiliated studios in recent years, including The Great for Hulu and films like The Favourite, Poor Things, Cruella, and The Roses. His collaborations with director Yorgos Lanthimos have earned him two Oscar nominations for screenplay and a BAFTA Award.
Disney emphasizes that McNamara's talent for sharp dialogue, complex characters, and dark humor perfectly aligns with their ambition to develop high-quality British original content.
Daisy Edgar-Jones has several prestigious film projects on the horizon, including Sense and Sensibility, A Place In Hell with Michelle Williams, and Here Comes the Flood alongside Denzel Washington and Robert Pattinson.
Nicholas Hoult, who was recently seen in Superman and Nosferatu, will soon appear in How To Rob a Bank and is also working on several major film projects, including as Lex Luthor in the Superman: Man of Tomorrow sequel.
