Produced by FX Productions, Seven Sisters centers on a large, close-knit family that begins to unravel when one of the sisters, Adrienne (played by Elizabeth Olsen), claims to communicate with a voice no one else can hear. This unsettling premise forces the family to confront deeply buried secrets, sparking tensions and conflicts.

Within the family dynamics, Olsen, Milioti, Hagner, Young, Winters, Brown, and Kettig portray the seven sisters referenced in the title. Philip Ettinger plays their brother, while Anthony Edwards and J. Smith-Cameron play the parents. Ryan Eggold appears as Adrienne's husband.

The series is created and written by Will Arbery, with Sean Durkin as director and Garrett Basch as producer; all three also serve as executive producers. The project reunites Olsen and Durkin more than fifteen years after their successful collaboration on the film Martha Marcy May Marlene in 2011, which received both critical and artistic acclaim at the time.

For Garrett Basch, Seven Sisters marks his fifth series for FX, following previous titles like Devs, Reservation Dogs, What We Do in the Shadows, and The Lowdown. His production company Dive has had a longstanding first-look deal with FX. Basch is also involved in the FX comedy pilot Very Young Frankenstein.

According to Gina Balian, president of FX Entertainment, the network has long sought a strong family drama. Seven Sisters stood out for its relatable dynamics between adult siblings and their parents, combined with an original and unexpected angle. The series promises a story that will captivate viewers and keep them surprised until the end.
