Netflix has book-based TV series Lights Out in development

The popular novel Lights Out by bestselling author Navessa Allen is being adapted into a television series at Netflix.
Lights Out became a sensation on BookTok after its publication in 2024. The story follows trauma nurse Aly, whose dark fantasies become reality when a masked, vengeful hacker named Josh breaks into her life. What begins as a terrifying confrontation evolves into an intense and dangerous romance, where the lines between desire, obsession, and reality increasingly blur.

The book is the first installment in the Into Darkness series, published by Slowburn, an imprint of Zando. The second installment, Caught Up, debuted at number one on The New York Times bestseller list upon its release in June 2025. The third book, Game On, is scheduled for publication on March 31.

Hannah Schneider, known for Why Women Kill and Accused (US), will adapt the novel and serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Peter Chernin and Tracey Cook of Chernin Entertainment are also involved as executive producers, along with the book's author Navessa Allen herself.

Chernin Entertainment previously produced the Netflix series The Madness and was also responsible for acclaimed Apple TV series such as Chief of War, Truth Be Told (2019), and See. Upcoming projects include Netflix titles like The Age of Innocence and Man on Fire.

Allen lives on the East Coast of the United States with her husband and two cats. Her work often explores themes such as trauma, recovery, and complex relationships, combining dark romance with humor and strong character development.
