HBO orders Westworld to series

HBO orders Westworld to series

Not only Netflix invests in new series, but HBO also sets the standard with new series. In 2015 HBO will broadcast the remake of the 1973 Michael Crichton film with the same name. HBO explained to The Hollywood Reporter: "A dark adventure about the artificial consciousness and the future of sin." Jonathan Nolan (‘Person of Interest’) will be directing and producing the series, and the writing together with Lisa Joy (‘Burn Notice’). The producers are J.J.Abrahams (‘Lost’), Jerry Weintraub (‘The Karate Kid’) and Bryan Burk (‘Lost’).

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the show’s androids — played by cast members including James Marsden, Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton — can be killed off and return with completely different personas, allowing actors to play many characters. That creative device, one top talent agent said, has helped HBO attract a premier cast (which also includes Miranda Otto and Jeffrey Wright). And unlike the actors on such anthology series as FX’s ‘American Horror Story’ and HBO’s own ‘True Detective’, which reboot themselves every season, the cast of ‘Westworld’ is signing multiyear deals.

HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said: “This is built as a series and, in terms of storytelling; I think the rules are definitely being broken. The promise of the show, in terms of where it’s going, is exciting to actors, and they want to be a part of this.”

In the original film from 1973, Yul Brynner and James Brolin are the lead actors. In the series Ed Harris ('The Hours') and Anthony Hopkins ('Silence of the Lambs') respectively will play their roles.

Are you looking forward to the series 'Westworld' and what do you think about Anthony Hopkins to play the lead role?
