Renowned crime novel by Kerstin Ekman to be turned into series at SVT

Apple Tree Productions will create a series based on the award-winning crime novel Blackwater by Kerstin Ekman under the leadership of Piv Bernth (The Killing). It will be a six-part series for Swedish broadcaster SVT.
Ekman's novel was first published in 1993 in Sweden. The story is set in 1970. Four random people come into contact with each other in the Swedish mountain town of Blackwater after two tourists are killed in a tent near the village.

The series is written by Maren Louise Käehne (The Bridge). Pernilla August (The Legacy) will direct the episodes. Piv Bernth will direct the series. In addition to Apple Tree, the series is also produced by ARD Degeto from Germany and Filmpool Nord from Sweden, with support from the European Union's media program. Blackwater is the second production of Apple Tree, the company is currently producing the thriller Equinox for Netflix. The series will be shown at SVT in Sweden. The drama has already been sold to DR in Denmark, NRK in Norway, YLE in Finland and RUV in Iceland.
