Lead role for Mamoudou Athie and Dina Shihabi in series adaptation of podcast Archive 81

Mamoudou Athie (Sorry For Your Loss) and Dina Shihabi (Altered Carbon) will be portraying the lead characters in a new Netflix series, which is based on the horror podcast Archive 81. Archive 81 revolves around archivist Dan Turner (Mamoudou Athie, Sorry For Your Loss), who accepts a mysterious task to restore a collection of damaged videotapes from 1994. He reconstructs the work of documentarist Melody Pendras (Dina Shihabi, Altered Carbon) and her research into a dangerous cult. As Dan is drawn to Melody's story, he becomes convinced that he can save her from a terrifying demise, which happened 25 years ago.

The series is based on the horror podcast Archive 81. It premiered back in 2018, and already consists of three seasons. Podcast creators Marc Sollinger and Daniel Powell will serve as executive producer. Atomic Monsters by James Wan (MacGyver (2016)) will be producing the series. Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Vampire Diaries) will be serving as showrunner of the eight-part series. Paul Harris Boardman has written the script. Rebecca Thomas (Stranger Things) will be directing a couple of episodes, and she will also serve as executive producer.
