Scott Frank (The Queen's Gambit) is working alongside Johan Renck (Chernobyl) in order to create a series adaptation of Sparrow for The CW.

Mary Doria Russel's The Sparrow will be adapted by The CW into a series. Scott Frank (The Queen's Gambit) will be directing all the episodes of the mini-series. Next to that, he will serve as executive producer alongside Mark Johnson (Better Call Saul). FX Productions is responsible for production. Johan Renck (Chernobyl) will direct the entire series.

The Sparrow follows a group of Jesuit priests and scientists. The well-spoken father Emilio Sandoz is the leader of the group and is the first to make contact with alien life. The Vatican supports a secret mission to a distant planet with the goal of proving the existence of God in the entire universe. It doesn't go entirely as planned and the journey ends up a disaster.
