Marc Cherry develops Charleston family drama for Netflix

Marc Cherry, the creator of Desperate Housewives, is working on a new drama series for Netflix.
The yet-to-be-titled series is set in Charleston, South Carolina, and comes from Sandbox Studios, the production company of Jason Owen, manager of artists like Billie Eilish, Kacey Musgraves, and Kelsea Ballerini.

The series follows four couples — connected by family, marriage, and destiny — who are central to the most powerful heritage families of Charleston. With exclusive access to the city's elite and high society, the series explores the tensions between old money, hidden scandals, and the pressures of modern life.

Marc Cherry will serve as showrunner and executive producer through his own banner Cherry Productions. Netflix has not yet officially commented on the project.

Cherry is known for successful series like Why Women Kill (Paramount+), Devious Maids (Lifetime), and of course, Desperate Housewives (ABC).

Sandbox Studios is currently also working with Netflix on the film Heartland starring Jessica Chastain and is in preproduction with Deck the Y’alls, in which Chastain will appear alongside Octavia Spencer.

The new collaboration fits within Netflix's strategy to bring more soapy drama series. The streamer previously found success with The Hunting Wives — recently renewed for a second season — and The Waterfront, which was also set in the Carolinas but was canceled after one season.
