The American channel Syfy will have a series about the iconic horror character Chucky, the central figure in Child's Play, a film from 1988.
The channel announced this during the winter tour of the Television Critics Association on Saturday. Originally, only a pilot would be made, but now a complete series will be released immediately.
Chucky is the red-haired freckled doll possessed by the soul of the notorious serial killer Charles Lee Ray. The news about the series comes a little less than a year after Syfy first announced that they had acquired the television rights. The series comes from Don Mancini, who wrote the film franchise on which the series is based. Mancini will also serve as a showrunner and executive producer in addition to directing the first episode.
Chucky
Creator Don Mancini and draftsman David Kirschner promise to give "a new unique view" of Chucky and to further expand and deepen the mythology. In the film Child's Play, the scary doll is found at a street vendor, after which an idyllic American village turns into a killzone.
