Unruly featuring Mahershala Ali in production at HBO

Unruly has entered production at HBO. The series is based on boxing legend Jack Johnson. Mahershala Ali (House of Cards (2013)) will portray Johnson. HBO is working on Unruly, which is based on the life of boxing legend Jack Johnson. Galveston Giant - Johnson's nickname - became the first African-American heavyweight boxing world champion after he won the game against James J. Jeffries in 1910. This match was called the fight of the century.

Two-times Oscar winner Mahershala Ali (House of Cards (2013)) will portray Johnson. Ali has previously revealed that portraying Johnson would be one of his dream roles. The series has been made by Playtone, which is owned by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman. Dominique Morisseau (Shameless (US)) has written the six-part series.
