The series of the Year election 2020

The series of the Year election 2020

Since 2012, MySeries has organised the annual series of the year election. Soon, people will be able to vote in different categories.
2020 was a strange year. Definitely not a year that went the way we expected, this applies to the world of series as well. The corona virus caused quite a bit of chaos. The new rules and countermeasures apply to everyone, including the production teams of various series. Due to that, productions were halted and entire seasons were left unfinished, just like the final season of Empire. Due to all of that, big American networks had to change their entire schedules and move pilots and potential series to 2021. How do you film a series in a complete virus-free environment? That's a question nobody was able to answer.

Original ideas had to come up in order to properly complete seasons or entire series. Some series were given animated episodes, even though they had never worked this way before. All possible ideas were thought of. Unfortunately, not on time for all series. Luckily, we were able to enjoy a couple of new series and new seasons.

Among others, the new - and also final - seasons of Supernatural, The 100, Homeland, Empire and The Good Place. Not just the longer-running series were cancelled. The reasonably popular newcomer I Am Not Okay With This (2020) was cancelled after only one season. In October, Netflix released the biggest surprise of 2020 with The Queen's Gambit. It broke numerous records in a very short amount of time. Records were not just broken at Netflix but also at HBO. The new original The Undoing by David E. Kelley broke quite a few records as well.

Last year, La Casa de Papel won the title 'best series of 2019' with 430 votes. Will the series win again this year, or will a different series obtain the title 'best series of 2020'? On the 8th of February, we'll know. That is when the results of the elections will be revealed. There will not just be categories that feature series. Just like last year, you will be able to vote in the categories of 'Best actor' and 'Best actress'.

The 2020 election will consist of the following categories:

Best comedy series
Best superhero series
Best non-English series
Best Dutch/Flemish series
Best animated series
Best binge-watch series
Best science-fiction series
Best crime series
Best ended series
Best actress
Best actor
Best miniseries or anthology series
Most disappointing series
Best new series
Best series of 2020

Starting from the 4th of January till the 1st of February, you will be able to cast a vote in these categories. To prepare for the elections, MySeries writers have nominated ten series per category. This selection has been based on the monthly poll and a lot of debating. If your favourite series isn't part of this 'top 10', it will still have a chance to win. Through a wild card, you'll be able to vote on your own series of choice. For the category 'Best actor' and 'Best actress', five actors and five actresses will be nominated. The selected top ten per category and the top five for the actors/actresses will be highlighted and explained. The last column will be published on the 3rd of January.

This year, we'll also randomly award prizes to those who voted on the Series of the year election. If you've voted, you could win one of the following prizes:

1 DVD package (valued at €100,-)
2 premium accounts for 2 years (valued at € 44,95)
10 premium accounts for 1 year (valued € 24,95)

You can vote through the website or the app. It is important to know that you will need the latest version of the app.

Good luck and enjoy selecting your favourites. It is always exciting to see the results, which are based on all those different interests and preferences. Will the series of the year election results be just as unexpected as the year itself? Before we're there, first it's time to enjoy all the various columns that will be published leading up to the election.
