The Emmy Awards will miss a few big names this year

Where is my series? This is why favourites such as The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Insecure and What We Do in the Shadows aren't eligible for an Emmy this year.
On the 13th of July, nominations for the 73rd Emmy Awards have been revealed. But where are the fan-favourites? Many award series such as Succession, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Insecure, Better Call Saul, Stranger Things, Ozark and What We Do in the Shadows will be left out and that has nothing to do with their quality.

In order to be eligible for the 2021 Emmy's, the episodes have to air between the 1st of June of 2020 and the 31st of May in 2021. Due to the pandemic, there were a lot of production stops and delays. Emmy-favourite The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel started its production in late January, many months after it was initially planned. January was the month when the series was supposed to start its run. Unfortunately for this great series, the fourth season hasn't even begun as of yet. Up until now, the amazing miss Maisel has been nominated 54 times and won 20 Emmy's over the course of three seasons.

Other popular series that will not be part of the Emmy's this year are Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Morning Show, Killing Eve, Russian Doll and Dead to Me. Schitt's Creek dominated the 2020 Emmy Awards with a total of nine wins. This includes Outstanding Comedy Series and a couple of acting performances of Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Dan Levy and Annie Murphy. But the Pop TV series is completely finished. It ended its sixth and final season on the 7th of April in 2020 and thus isn't eligible either.

This could mean that the often looked over fan-favourites actually stand a chance. Think of Cobra Kai, Hacks, The Mandalorian, The Boys, The Flight Attendant, Ted Lasso, Mayans MC (2018), Perry Mason (2020) or Bridgerton. But all of this could also have an impact on the other popular series such as The Crown, This Is Us, The Handmaid's Tale and The Kominsky Method.

FX's Pose could also end on a high note with possible wins at the Television Academy. The drama from Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals has been nominated for eleven Emmy's and has won a couple, Television Academy Honors in 2019 and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Billy Porter in that very same year. This year, the final season aired.
