Julian McMahon, known from Nip/Tuck and Charmed, has died at the age of 56

Actor Julian McMahon, best known as Dr. Christian Troy from the medical drama series Nip/Tuck, has died at the age of 56 from complications of cancer.
Julian McMahon, the Australian actor who rose to fame with his roles in Nip/Tuck, Charmed, FBI: Most Wanted and the Fantastic Four films, died on July 2 in Clearwater, Florida, after a private battle with cancer. He was 56.

McMahon was born on 27 July 1968 in Sydney, the son of Billy McMahon, former Prime Minister of Australia. He began his career as a model, but soon switched to acting. In his home country he starred in the soap opera Home and Away, which brought him early success.

In America, he also started his career in a soap opera, NBC's Another World, after which he made his breakthrough in the NBC series Profiler. He became beloved by a large audience as Cole Turner in the popular fantasy series Charmed, in which he played the mysterious half-demon Belthazor for three seasons. His big breakthrough came with the leading role as the charismatic and reckless plastic surgeon Dr. Christian Troy in FX's Nip/Tuck, a role that earned him a Golden Globe nomination and definitively put him on the map as a television star.

McMahon also appeared as Dr. Doom in the Fantastic Four films (2005 and 2007), which brought him international recognition in the film world. He has also appeared in films such as Premonition, RED, Paranoia, You’re Not You, Swinging Safari and most recently in The Surfer with Nicolas Cage, as well as The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat. His last television appearance was in the Netflix series The Residence, in which he played the Australian Prime Minister — a symbolic role that referenced his own heritage.

In addition to his professional successes, McMahon was known as a warm, energetic and humorous personality. He loved his work, his family and his fans intensely. His colleagues, including Dylan Walsh and Nicolas Cage, revered him as a talented and special man with whom it was a privilege to work.

Julian McMahon is survived by his wife Kelly and daughter Madison (Maddy). In an emotional statement, Kelly said he passed away peacefully and that his greatest wish was always to bring joy to as many people as possible. She asked for privacy so the family could grieve in peace, and encouraged everyone to continue to bring the joy Julian brought to the world.
