FOX has ordered a pilot of an unnamed series about a teacher who is trying to recreate The Goonies with three students.
The idea for the potential series comes from an earlier deal between Fox Entertainment, Sarah Watson and other writers. Watson was linked to Gail Berman and her Fox production company SideCar to develop the concept.
The series will revolve around Stella Cooper who returns to her hometown, Astoria, so that she can work as a teacher. Stella decides to help three students with a great passion for film to recreate a shot by shot copy of the adventure comedy film The Goonies. A film that was released in 1985 written by Steven Spielberg and directed by Richard Donner. In the course of the series, the passion of the students will serve as an inspiration for the inhabitants of the town.
The pilot is a co-production of Warner Bros Television, SideCar Content Accelerator and Amblin TV. Sarah Watson (The Bold Type and Parenthood) writes the script. Greg Mottola (The Newsroom) will direct the pilot. Gail Berman, Lauren Shuler Donner, Richard Donner and Amblin's Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank are producing the pilot.
