Showtime orders pilot of comedy series The Curse

Showtime orders pilot of comedy series The Curse

Showtime has ordered a pilot from The Curse, a comedy series by directors and co-writers Benny and Josh Safdie (Uncut Gems) and creator Nathan Fielder (Nathan for You).
In The Curse, an alleged curse disrupts the relationship of a newlywed couple that takes part in an HGTV show called Flipanthropy. Although the description is reminiscent of the story of Tarek El Moussa and Christina Anstead, presenters of the popular Flip or Flop series of HGTV, whose marriage fell apart after the success of the show, The Curse is not based on true events. Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie can also be seen in the series in addition to their roles behind the scenes. Fielder will play the husband and Benny Safdie will play the producer of the HGTV show.

Showtime produces the pilot. Fielder, Benny and Josh Safdie are the executive producers. The project is said to have been pitched with the idea that the Safdie brothers are going to direct, but it is said that the pilot is not being directed by them. Showtime hasn't commented on this yet. The episodes of the comedy series will take approximately half an hour. The Curse joins other comedy pilots such as Big Deal, with Vanessa Bayer in the lead, and How To Make Love to a Black Woman (Who May Through Some Sh * t) from Showtime.

The Safdie brothers have won the Film Independent Spirit Award for Best Director this year with the film Uncut Gems, and they were also nominated for Best Scenario. Fielder's Comedy Central show Nathan for You was nominated three times for the WGA Award in the Comedy / Variety Sketch Series category. In 2019 he managed to win this prize.
