
Daniel plays Nella, a bookish horror fan who tends to please people at the start of the season. Murray is Hazel-May McCall, a straight black and Harlem cool assistant. Adebumola will take on the role of Malaika, an old lady at heart who is queer and constantly compares notes about her life goals. Parrish plays Owen, Nella's family-oriented boyfriend for three years who works as a high school principal. Beauvais has a recurring role as Diana Gordan, a world-famous author who was best friends with Kendra Rae Philips, Wagner's former black editor. Young plays Vera Parini and McCormack a character named Richard.
Executive producers for The Other Black Girl are Rashida Jones, Temple Hill (Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey), Adam Fishbach, Zakiya Dalila Harris, Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey. Reddout and Hickey are also showrunners.
Hulu revealed the following about the plot of the series:
"Nella, an editorial assistant, is tired of being the only black girl in her company, so she's excited when Hazel is hired. But as Hazel's star starts to rise, Nella spirals into a spiral and discovers something sinister is going on in the company."
