Pompeo stayed on as Grey's Anatomy's weekly voiceover narrator, but reduced her appearances as Meredith Grey (she is also an executive producer). Once filming wrapped on Good American Family, she increased her on-screen role for season 21, which returns Thursday, March 6 on ABC.
Good American Family is a dramatization of Natalia Grace's story. Grace, who has a rare form of dwarfism known as spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita, has become a household name because her story was told for three seasons in channel ID's documentary The Curious Case of Natalia Grace.
The series previously ended in January after exploring how Grace, who turned out to be legally 21 years old, was abused by two adoptive families before finding her current new start with a new family, Vincent and Nicole DePaul.
Here's the synopsis for Good American Family: "This riveting drama is inspired by the disturbing stories surrounding a Midwestern couple who adopt a girl with a rare form of dwarfism. But when they begin raising her along with their three biological children , a mystery arises surrounding her age and background and they slowly begin to suspect that she may not be who she says she is. As they defend their family from the daughter they believe is a threat, she fights her own struggle to face her past and what her future holds, in a showdown that ultimately plays out in the tabloids and the courtroom."
In addition to Pompeo, Mark Duplass and Imogen Reid (photo above) star in the series. Dulé Hill, Christina Hendricks, Sarayu Blue and Jenny O'Hara are returning guest stars.
The series will release two episodes on Hulu on Wednesday, March 19, followed by weekly episodes for the rest of the series.
