Pulse, from debut creator Zoe Robyn and veteran showrunner Carlton Cuse (Lost), is the fourth new medical drama to be released in three months, following HBO Max's The Pitt, which has already been renewed for a second season, Fox's Doc and CBS' Watson.
Designed as a network series on a network budget, Pulse follows in the tradition of shows like Grey's Anatomy, with a mix of medical cases and office romances.
As a hurricane barrels toward Miami's busiest Level 1 Trauma Center, third-year resident Dr. Danny Simms (Fitzgerald) receives an unexpected promotion when beloved chief assistant Dr. Xander Phillips (Woodell) is suspended. Simms and Phillips must find a way to work together - even as the details of a complicated and illicit romance between them become known.
The rest of the ER must deal with the fallout from their relationship while balancing their own challenges, both personal and professional, as they work under the pressures of life or death. Because for this close-knit group of doctors, saving the lives of their patients is often less complicated than living their own lives.
The series' regular cast includes Fitzgerald, Woodell, Justina Machado, Jack Bannon, Jessie T. Usher, Jessy Yates, Chelsea Muirhead and Daniela Nieves. The expansive cast of Pulse includes Nestor Carbonell, a recent Emmy winner for Shōgun, Jessica Rothe, Santiago Segura, Ash Santos and Arturo del Puerto.
