Low Life follows an unlikely duo: an uncle and his nephew, two small-time con artists who accidentally hear about a rumor about a sunken, wealthy boat off the Korean coast. Driven by the dream of finally striking it rich, they find themselves embroiled in a ruthless race against rival treasure hunters, opportunists and underworld figures.
Ryu plays Oh Gwanseok, a seasoned con man with one last big hit. Yang Se-jong (Doona!) plays his naive cousin Oh Heedong. Also joining the cast is Im Soo-jung (Chicago Typewriter) as Yang Jungsook, the matriarch of Hongbaek Industries whose own ambitions complicate the treasure hunting adventure.
Low Life is the latest addition to Disney+’s growing roster of high-quality Korean Originals. The platform has previously scored with titles such as Hyper Knife and Nine Puzzles — the latter of which is the most-watched Korean drama series of 2025 so far. Other high-profile Korean projects are also set to be released later this year, including Tempest (starring Gianna Jun, Gang Dongwon, and John Cho) and Made in Korea (starring Hyun Bin and Jung Woo-sung).
With Low Life, Disney+ continues its strategy of expanding its offering of prestige projects from the Asia-Pacific region, with Korean dramas that combine genre elements with historical details and big names. In this series, the streamer seems to be going for a retro-noir style with antiheroes in the lead role — similar to previous international successes such as Big Bet and Narco-Saints.
Low Life will be released on Disney+ on July 16. The 11-part series will start with three episodes on the premiere day, followed by weekly episodes and a two-part finale on August 13.
