Prime Video has announced the premiere date for the documentary Cocaine Quarterback.

Prime Video will soon release a new true crime documentary: Cocaine Quarterback: Signal-Caller for the Cartel.
The three-part documentary from Mark Wahlberg's Unrealistic Ideas follows the spectacular and ultimately disastrous life story of Owen Hanson, a young man from Redondo Beach who unexpectedly became part of the championship team of USC Football in 2004, but later transformed into an international cocaine baron.

The documentary outlines how Hanson, from humble beginnings, became increasingly entangled in the world of organized crime through illegal sports betting and cocaine smuggling.

His close ties with American sports stars who earned millions fueled his urge for quick money. When he lost millions from the cartel in a failed money-laundering operation, he found himself in life-threatening debt and was eventually brought down by the FBI.

Hanson was arrested in 2015 and sentenced in 2017 to over 21 years in prison and fined 5 million dollars, consisting of gold coins, luxury cars, jewelry, vacation homes, a sailboat, and business interests.

Thanks to an international collaboration between the FBI and the New South Wales Police Force in Australia, a vast network of sports betting, money laundering, and drug trafficking involving thousands of kilos of cocaine was uncovered. More than twenty of Hanson's accomplices were also arrested. Notably, Hanson was released early in March 2024.

Cocaine Quarterback: Signal-Caller for the Cartel premieres Thursday, September 25, on Prime Video. Unfortunately, there is no trailer available yet.
