The series is led by a striking and diverse cast of both Korean and American A-list stars. It stars Gianna Jun (also known as Jun Ji-hyun) as a former UN ambassador, Gang Dong-won as a morally conflicted mercenary, John Cho (The Afterparty), Michael Gaston (Five Days at Memorial), and Spencer Garrett (The Residence).
Lee Mi-sook (Queen of Tears), Park Hae-joon (When Life Gives You Tangerines), and Christopher Gorham (The Lincoln Lawyer) also play key roles.
Tempest is directed by Kim Hee-won, known as showrunner of Queen of Tears, and written by Chung Seo-kyung, the regular screenwriter for director Park Chan-wook (The Handmaiden). The series is co-directed by action choreographer Heo Myeong-haeng, known for The Roundup: Punishment.
The release of Tempest aligns with Disney+'s broader strategy to strengthen its position in the Korean drama market. Earlier this year, the streamer achieved success with Nine Puzzles, the most-watched Korean original on Disney+ in 2025 so far.
Tempest is considered one of the most important K-content titles of the fall, thanks in part to its strong international cast, a top team of Korean creators, and a relevant, topical storyline with global political intrigue.
Tempest premieres Wednesday, September 10th. This nine-episode espionage thriller will launch with three episodes simultaneously, followed by weekly releases and a two-part season finale on October 1st. In the US, the series is available on Hulu, while Disney+ handles worldwide distribution.
