Conjuring series from HBO Max has found a showrunner

The Conjuring series, which has been in development at HBO Max since 2023, is taking shape.
Nancy Won (Tiny Beautiful Things) has been confirmed as the showrunner and executive producer for the Conjuring series currently in development at HBO. Additionally, Peter Cameron and Cameron Squires, known for Marvel series like Agatha All Along and Marvel's WandaVision, are joining as writers.

The series is being developed by Warner Bros. Television and is intended as a continuation of the storyline from the New Line Cinema film franchise. Peter Safran will serve as executive producer, and James Wan’s Atomic Monster is involved in the production. Wan previously directed The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2.

The Conjuring universe now includes nine films. The most recent, The Conjuring: Last Rites, was released on September 5 and achieved the largest horror opening weekend worldwide of all time.

Almost every project in the franchise shares one thing in common: it is based on or inspired by the case files of Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga). It seems likely that the series will follow this example, either adapting one of their most infamous cases (including the Amityville haunting) or presenting a series of cases episodically.

I'm curious if this will actually become a series or an anthology. After all, there are more than enough connecting points in the Warrens' legacy to tell a different story each season. Just look at how many objects were in their Warren Ocult Museum, one of which was the Annabelle doll (which, by the way, looked very different from the films ;-)).

The idea that the series focuses on the Warren files offers a lot of potential. It could explore multiple notorious cases and perhaps offer a deeper look at the Warrens themselves, something that was always somewhat overlooked in the films. All in all, this sounds like a great opportunity to truly deepen and innovate the Conjuring horror universe in a series format.
