Netflix provides insight into viewer numbers for recently canceled series

Fans wondering how well some of their favorite canceled shows did on Netflix are getting the numbers.
Netflix has released figures for five recently canceled series: Kaos, Unstable, Obliterated, Girls5Eva and That '90s Show. According to Deadline, the streaming service has released its latest ratings report for July through December 2024, detailing how well or poorly these five series did.

Kaos

The best performing series was Kaos. The series had 20.3 million views at the time, including 9.3 million in the first week alone. However, over the next five and a half months, only 10 million views were added.

Obliterated had 27 million views in the last month of the year, but before that it only had 13.3 million views.

At the lower end of the scale, Rob Lowe's comedy series Unstable had just 3.1 total views during the six months for its second season. That '90s Show fared slightly better with 5.6 million views.

The series with the worst performance was Girls5Eva. Netflix picked up the comedy series after Peacock canceled it, but the third season only received 1.3 million views.

Interesting info in itself, but if you don't know the context, it's not that useful. Because I think 20 million views is quite a lot. But apparently that's not the case in total and not enough.
How many views does a series need to have at least to get a second season? Without that knowledge, 20 million doesn't mean much.

I think Netflix also looks at how much a series costs to make. Now the series mentioned above won't cost that much, but Netflix will also look at how many subscribers they have worldwide, how many have watched in a certain period, how it was appreciated (also by critics), and more of that kind of stuff. It's quite something that they give some info about their 'viewing figures', because Netflix is usually very closed about this. And 20 million viewers when you might have 200 million subscribers worldwide, isn't really that much. Besides, the question is whether those viewers have seen the entire series or did they drop out prematurely?

In short, it remains an unclear algorithm in which the number of views is no more than one of the elements. The fact that they now provide insight into this may be new, but in the end it is of little use to you. False openness, then.
