Nurse Jackie sequel series moves from Showtime to Amazon

Nurse Jackie sequel series moves from Showtime to Amazon

A follow-up series to Nurse Jackie, originally planned at Showtime, is now in development at Amazon MGM Studios.
Edie Falco again plays the leading role in the sequel series. As reported in 2023, the potential follow-up series from Lionsgate Television, producer of the original series, was in development at Showtime. Showtime's linear network, which launched more than four decades ago during the early days of cable, was officially rebranded in January and relaunched in a package with Paramount+.

Nurse Jackie

The logline: "Ten years after we left Jackie Peyton (Falco) clinging to life in the series finale, she's back on her feet despite losing her nursing license. Her story continues They face new dilemmas in an attempt to be good in a world where being bad is often not only easier, but also a lot more fun."

In the hospital drama Nurse Jackie, Falco starred as an ambiguous, pill-popping ER nurse and mother. The series, which ran from 2009 to 2015, won five Primetime Emmy Awards from 24 nominations, including wins for Falco and Merritt Wever.

Nurse Jackie was created and produced by Liz Brixius, Linda Wallem and Evan Dunksy. Caryn Mandabach and John Melfi also produced.

The original series' writer-producers Liz Flahive and Abe Sylvia are the writers and executive producers of the sequel series. Falco will also executive produce alongside former Showtime chief Bob Greenblatt. Lionsgate Television is the studio.
