The new series titled 9-1-1: Nashville is written and produced by co-creators Ryan Murphy and Tim Minear and 9-1-1: Lone Star showrunner Rashad Raisani (inset photo, left to right).
The series will premiere during the 2025-26 season and will be produced by Brad Falchuk, co-creator of the first two 9-1-1 series starring Murphy and Minear, and 9-1-1 lead actress Angela Bassett, who also produced Lone Star.
The idea for a second 9-1-1 spinoff quickly surfaced after the first, 9-1-1: Lone Star, premiered on Fox in 2020. It started to gain momentum after the main series 9-1-1 moved from Fox to ABC in 2023.
The 9-1-1 team has since explored several locations for the potential expansion of the franchise. In the beginning there was talk of Las Vegas. Last fall, as the project gained momentum and Murphy confirmed that he and Minear were working on a script, attention turned to Hawaii. As reported by sources at the time, the high cost of filming in the 50th state was considered a major hurdle.
The producers' attention eventually shifted to the South, with Nashville emerging as the frontrunner, in part because of a tax credit the series reportedly received.
As a major music center, Nashville is not as ubiquitous a setting for television series as other nearby cities such as Atlanta, Memphis and Wilmington, NC. The most famous scripted series filmed there was ABC's Nashville.
Based in Los Angeles, 9-1-1 is well on its way to a season nine renewal at ABC. The franchise is produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television.
