Set to music that resembles a ticking clock, the teaser also confirms that the fifteen-episode season will follow the action in real-time during a single first responder shift with the tagline: 15 episodes, 15 hours, 1 shift. You can watch the teaser at the bottom.
According to the official synopsis, The Pitt is a real-life examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in contemporary America, seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working at a modern hospital in Pittsburgh.
As previously reported, The Pitt was conceived within a different business framework – a modest budget for a broadcast-style drama for streaming. An unusual payment schedule with fixed fees for the supporting cast surrounding Wyle was also used.
Additionally, The Pitt has been the subject of a breach of contract lawsuit filed by the widow of ER creator Michael Crichton over alleged similarities to the iconic medical drama after the creative auspices of The Pitt and studio Warner Bros. Television had initially spoken with the estate about a reboot of ER. WBTV has denied the allegations; the lawsuit is still ongoing.
The Pitt is produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, where JWP has a blanket agreement. Gemmill wrote the first episode and is producing the series alongside Wyle, Wells and JWP's Erin Jontow, Simran Baidwan and Michael Hissrich.
