Apple TV+ gives first look at Mr. Scorsese documentary

Apple TV+ has shared a first look at Mr. Scorsese, a five-part documentary about the life and career of legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese.
In the teaser Apple TV+ has released for Mr. Scorsese, Martin Scorsese talks about the lengths he was willing to go to protect his 1976 edit of Taxi Driver, a film that almost never saw the light of day.

"They're going to destroy the film anyway, you know. So let me destroy it. I'll destroy it. But before I destroy it, I'm going to steal it," Scorsese says in the footage.

According to Apple, the documentary explores how Scorsese’s vibrant life experiences shaped his artistic vision, from his early student films at NYU to the present. It delves into recurring themes in his work, such as good and evil and human nature.

Mr. Scorsese includes exclusive access to the filmmaker’s private archive, plus extensive conversations with Scorsese himself and never-before-seen interviews with friends, family, and frequent collaborators such as Steven Spielberg, Robert De Niro, Daniel Day-Lewis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Mick Jagger, Robbie Robertson, Thelma Schoonmaker, Sharon Stone, Jodie Foster, Paul Schrader, Margot Robbie, Cate Blanchett, and Rodrigo Prieto.

Director Rebecca Miller calls the project “a filmmaker’s dream”: “I was honored that he trusted me to make this documentary. It’s a story that will resonate with everyone, from devoted Scorsese fans to those who once failed but still reached for the stars.”

She adds that the documentary also "tells the true story of a mythical Taxi Driver, and how Marty's perseverance ensured the film retained its integrity and became a cultural icon."

Mr. Scorsese premieres on Apple TV+ on Friday, October 17. Watch the teaser below.

This sounds like a documentary that's absolutely worth watching. Martin Scorsese has left such an indelible mark on the film world, and the fact that Mr. Scorsese is delving exclusively into his private archive and featuring so many iconic names makes it all the more compelling. This documentary really appeals to me. I'm curious about the combination of personal stories and previously unseen footage.
