BBC releases trailer for Crookhaven

The new youth series Crookhaven is set to premiere soon on the BBC.
Crookhaven is based on the popular book series by J. J. Arcanjo and is set in a unique boarding school where students are trained to become master thieves — but with an unexpected mission.

The story takes place at Crookhaven, a secret school for young criminals, where students, known as Crooklings, develop their skills. Instead of committing crimes for personal gain, they learn to use their talents for good, bringing balance, justice, and order to the world.

The series follows a group of eight international students, each with their own specialties and secrets. As they compete for the prestigious Crooked Cup, they must also face a mysterious and dangerous enemy known as The Nameless.

Central to the story is Gabriel, played by Lucas Leach, a brilliant young pickpocket. His biggest rival is Penelope, the principal's daughter, played by Carmel Laniado. Their rivalry is a key part of the competition and the dynamics among the students.

The series also features a strong adult cast including Dougray Scott, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Keith Allen, and Amari Bacchus, who recently made a breakthrough with the series Adolescence.

The series is directed by Jon East, known for Killing Eve and Downton Abbey, and Jamie Magnus Stone, who previously directed episodes of Doctor Who (2024).

Crookhaven premieres on Sunday, March 22 on BBC.
