North of North is an original, warm comedy series from Netflix with a beautiful message.North of North is a Canadian comedy series from Netflix from 2025, the first season of which consists of eight episodes of about half an hour. In the northern part of Canada, the young mother Siaja (Anna Lambe) lives in the (fictional) town of Nunavut. After an accident in the icy water, she decides to get a divorce and moves back in with her mother Neevee (Maika Harper), together with her daughter Bun (Keira Cooper). Her ex-husband Ting (Kelly William) tries to get Siaja back, but he is mainly uninterested and selfish. They are all Inuit, descendants of the original inhabitants of Canada.
Siaja finds a job as an assistant to the manic Helen (Mary Lynn Rajskub) at the community center. In her work, Siaja can express her unbridled creativity, spontaneity and enthusiasm. Her colleagues Millie (Zorga Qaunaq) and Colin (Bailey Poching) find Siaja's ideas wild, but also interesting. Meanwhile, mother Neevee is convinced that Siaja will soon get into trouble again and will be fired again.
After her divorce, Siaja is searching for herself and her self-esteem, but indeed manages to attract the necessary problems. For example, she accidentally sets fire to the local garbage dump and causes the necessary chaos at a gathering for the elderly. In the meantime, she also seems to find a new love in the form of the dreamy Kuuk (Braeden Clarke).
North of North was filmed in Iqaluit, the northernmost part of Canada. The environment reminded me a bit of that of the fourth season of True Detective, shot among the Inupiaq of Alaska. The series was also made with a large part of the local residents. That is nice, because the community is also central to this comedy series. The traditions, folklore, clothing and the cohesion of the close-knit Inuit community are very important in all the developments of the residents.
Anna Lambe is very infectious as Siaja and can carry the episodes effortlessly.
Anna Lambe is very infectious as Siaja and can carry the episodes effortlessly. She is alternately enchanting, naive, clumsy and then creative and infectious. The series contains various funny characters and is easy to watch. But through the series you also get to know the culture of the Inuit and discover a life wisdom every now and then. This makes the series a pleasant pastime and interesting to follow. It has already been confirmed that there will be a second season.
