Only Murders in the Building adds two-time Oscar winner Renée Zellweger to its fifth season. Production on the new season, which will see Lester’s murder solved, began this week in New York. The series’ four regulars—stars/executive producers Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez and Michael Cyril Creighton—are returning. Zellweger (pictured) is among a new lineup of big names, including Christoph Waltz, Téa Leoni, and Keegan-Michael Key.
As usual, details about the storylines and new characters are being withheld.
Zellweger (pictured) won Oscars for Cold Mountain and Judy and stars in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, the fourth and final installment of the Bridget Jones franchise. The film has grossed more than $120 million worldwide. In 2001, Zellweger starred in Bridget Jones's Diary, for which she earned her first Academy Award nomination, as well as Golden Globe, SAG, and BAFTA nominations. The four-film franchise has grossed more than $850 million worldwide.
Zellweger made her television debut in Netflix's neo-noir social thriller What/If in 2019, and NBC's The Thing About Pam followed in 2022. She is an executive producer on the upcoming Apple TV+ thriller series Raising Wild, starring Cynthia Erivo, through her Big Picture Co.
Season four of Only Murders in the Building featured the largest cast yet, including the return of Meryl Streep, along with Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, Eva Longoria, Jane Lynch, Richard Kind, Melissa McCarthy, Kumail Nanjiani and Molly Shannon.
The Hulu series last month scored its first SAG Award for Comedy Series Ensemble, shared by Martin, Short, Gomez, Creighton, Levy, Galifianakis, Longoria, Kind, Nanjiani and Shannon. Short also won for Best Actor in a Comedy Series.
