Although a police report declares Lester's death an accident, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel are certain there's more to it. They've already solved four murders, all discussed in detail on their popular true crime podcast, Only Murders in the Building. One thing is clear: Lester didn't die by accident.
The trio's search leads them to the dark side of New York and beyond, where they uncover a dangerous web of secrets connecting powerful billionaires, long-standing mafia families, and mysterious residents of the Arconia—like Howard Morris (Michael Cyril Creighton).
The mafia storyline plays a major role, as the trailer reveals that Lester had a run-in with gangsters on the night of his death. Detective Donna Williams (Da'Vine Joy Randolph) reappears and puts the three on the right track when she makes a crucial discovery: a severed finger. The question is: will this clue lead them to the killer?
The season also boasts an impressive list of guest stars. The trailer features Bobby Cannavale, Renée Zellweger, Christoph Waltz, Beanie Feldstein, Dianne Wiest, Logan Lerman, Jermaine Fowler, and Keegan-Michael Key, among others.
Téa Leoni also returns after her surprise appearance in the final moments of season four, playing Sofia Caccimelio, the wife of Nicky "The Neck" Caccimelio, a missing person with ties to the Caputo crime family. The trailer hints at a possible affair between Charles and Sofia—not surprising, because who can resist Brazzos?
Furthermore, several beloved characters return: Nathan Lane as Teddy Dimas (last seen in season two), Richard Kind as Vince Fish (from season four), and Meryl Streep as Loretta Durkin, Oliver's wife (known from seasons three and four). Whether Paul Rudd will make a comeback is still unknown, but given his previous roles in seasons two through four, that remains a question mark.
The new season kicks off with three episodes on Tuesday, September 9, followed by weekly episodes every Tuesday on Hulu. Check out the poster and trailer below.
